I had some trash on my property and tried to get the local recycling company out to pick it up but they weren’t interested, so I loaded it on an old trailer and put it out by the road in hopes the independent scavengers who roam the streets on garbage day.

The neighbors had their doubts as they new it would not be accepted by the scheduled trash pick up service, and it was not even the last pick up of the month when the heavier stuff is accepted.

I have met at least one of the independents some time ago, he was dressed appropriately and hard at work well before first light. Without exception, he takes every piece of metal no matter how rusted and nasty looking. And he did not disappoint me.

The next morning the only thing left was my old trailer, which had two flat tires and ready for the junkyard. Before I had a chance to drag it out of sight, an old car probably from the 1930′s drove in my yard.

He inquired about the trailer and I gave it to him. As in any symbiotic system there are levels of appreciation and efficiency. The trailer and junk was truly worthless hidden from sight. It was a victim of my value system.

We should be careful not to confuse our world with the world. A better world is one where we respect the unique talents that each of us possess. Rather than compete, we should distinguish our gifts.

Interesting to see that not everyone see things as “trash”, huh?
